Day 618

Brexit : Nearly every conversation for the past few days has been about this topic. I have had to look beyond the arguments from both sides and go by what I have learnt so far. Politics is not my forte but it is an ugly reflection of life and cannot be ignored.

Till the very last hour before voting I was unsure but then suddenly it was clear. Any venture started without firstly, a plan and secondly, good leadership is bound to not work. For me, UK leaving the EU is exactly like that. No plan. No leadership. So, the choice was clear.

After the people’s decision from yesterday, these lyrics written by Pink Floyd at the time of the fall of The Berlin Wall seem most appropriate:

“A Great Day For Freedom”

On the day the wall came down
They threw the locks onto the ground
And with glasses high we raised a cry for freedom had arrived
On the day the wall came down
The Ship of Fools had finally ran aground
Promises lit up the night like paper doves in flight

I dreamed you had left my side
No warmth, not even pride remained
And even though you needed me
It was clear that I could not do a thing for you

Now life devalues day by day
As friends and neighbors turn away
And there’s a change that, even with regret, cannot be undone
Now frontiers shift like desert sands
While nations wash their bloodied hands
Of loyalty, of history, in shades of grey

I woke to the sound of drums
The music played, the morning sun streamed in
I turned and I looked at you
And all but the bitter residues slipped away…slipped away.

  1. You echo my sentiments precisely Sangeeta.
I also feel that we know better than most people the significance of loss. We never fully value something/someone until it is lost to us.
    Much love to you
